What Is A File Lock?

Have you ever heard of a file lock? A file lock is something Equifax offers that is very similar to a security freeze. This will allow you to access your credit report, but lenders may not access it without you unlocking it. So, if you want to open a new account, you’d have to first lift the file lock.

Placing a lock on your credit file at one agency does not place it on your account at the other two nationwide consumer reporting agencies.
