How To Freeze An Equifax Credit File

If you’d like to place a freeze on your Equifax credit file, you can do so either by mail, phone, or online.

There is no fee for adding, lifting, or permanently removing a security freeze from now through January 31, 2018. Any freeze activities after January 31, 2018 may be subject to the fees provided by your state of residence.

The easiest and fastest way to freeze your Equifax credit file is by going online to www.freeze.equifax.com. If you want, you may also request a security freeze by calling 1-800-685-1111.

Because security is important, you will need to send proof of identification along with your request. Once you place a freeze on your credit file, you will get a 10-digit generated PIN. You will need it whenever you want to lift or remove the freeze in the future.
