Examples of Hard Credit Inquiries: Part 2

In part 1 of Example of Hard Credit Inquiries, we shared the types of credit inquiries that can bring your credit score down a few points. They included applying for a loan, mortgage or credit card. Credit inquiries allow lenders to see when and where you’ve searched for credit in the past so they can have a better idea of how trustworthy you are.

Here are five other things that can show up on your credit report as a hard inquiry:

  • Submitting an application to rent a new apartment.
  • Verification of identity by a financial institution.
  • Going to rent a car.
  • Applying for cable or internet.
  • Getting a cell phone contract
