Do you ever wonder what’s the difference between a credit file lock and a security freeze? Thanks to Equifax, we have the answer. There are many differences, but there are many similarities too. On a basic level, they both stop new creditors from accessing your Equifax credit report. The only way they get access to is if you give permission. You can also take some other action like removing, unlocking or lifting the freeze or lock.
Both of these help to prevent a lender or other creditor from accessing a consumer’s credit report to open unauthorized new accounts.
